Zorgvliet opens its doors to fractional ownership

At the Zorgvliet Wine Estate a concept of vineyard holidays has been developed over the past six years. Invitation to wine estate activities that are not normally available to visitors have been incorporated in Zorgvliet vineyard vacations. An open cellar policy welcomes visitors even during the harvesting season. With the development of the Zorgvliet Vineyard Lodge & Spa visitors can stay and experience living on a working wine farm. A new exciting development is that in line with the Zorgvliet Private Residence Club the exquisite master rooms are now presented in a fractional ownership model. A limited number of three weeks per year options are also available. This is a perpetual share acquisition of a unique aspirational lifestyle. The Zorgvliet Vineyard Lodge offers six master bedrooms, a lounge, dining area and pool. Further fractional options exist at the family orientated Alluvia guest houses. At Alluvia there are two self catering units as well as five additional five star lodging rooms on offer. Backed by a Zorgvliet hospitality agreement these fully serviced rooms are a home away from home. The Estate boasts a wide range of amenities making vacation ownership on Zorgvliet and Alluvia a unique investment. Surrounded by mountains overlooking vineyards and the feel of the slow pulse of the winelands is an experience to behold. Rich in history with luxurious leisure facilities everything intended at enhancing your stay. From the newly extended Zorgvliet Spa to the 1692 Herenhuis Restaurant and charming picnic site is all part of the special experiences at Zorgvliet. Fly fishing and even a PGA standard chip and putt facility is available.

Zorgvliet was named after a beautiful farm in The Hague. It was the natural beauty that convinced the early European settlers to name the farm Zorgvliet in 1685. It is one of the oldest wine farm names in the country. Due to the natural beauty and exclusive lifestyle real estate in the Banhoek Valley comes at a very high premium. The valley is only 10 minutes from the historic Stellenbosch yet a world away. Now becoming part of this exclusive lifestyle and wine fraternity is available to a lucky few vacation investors.

Although it is not clear exactly when the first vines were planted on Zorgvliet the present day Chapel was indicated as the wine cellar in the 'opgaaf' of Johannes Muller in 1732, he also left some 12 'leagers' of wine. One of the farms, making up the present day Zorgvliet wine estate, has been named after a dubious mining project Octroojeerde Society der Mynwerken also known as the silver mine. 'Silver Myn' has also been taken on as the renegade label for unconventional products such as Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir and Viognier. By 1743 a certain Muller persuaded the authorities to grant him mining rights on the Simonsberg Mountain. With the backing of a reputable businessman, Olaf de Wet a company the Octroojeerde Society der Mynwerken aan de Simonsberg was formed. Muller was appointed Bergmeester (master miner) and work began in 1743 with Company soldiers, sailors and some slaves. Long tunnels were built into the side of the mountain at two levels and shafts of 50-100 feet deep were sunk to connect them. For five years Muller continued to demand more labour and funds in order to extract the rich deposits that lay ahead – with the promise of silver, later copper and even gold! Eventually the Directors became suspicious and sent a sample of ore to Amsterdam for analysis. Muller was exposed and banished to Batavia. Mining ceased but the mine remains intact. Was this a hoax, the first white collar crime in South Africa or are there silver and gold deposits to be found in the belly of the Simonsberg?

Vacation investors can now find their pound of silver through a perpetual holiday investment in the Zorgvliet Private Residence Club. Members of this leading Private Residence Club can also exchange their vacation weeks for global exquisite facilities at more than 120 destinations.
